Hunting and fishing in Belarus

Since ancient times the diversity of Belarusian nature and the wealth of wildlife attracted hunters and fishers who came here from all over Europe. In previous centuries Kiev Princes, Russian Monarchs, Polish Kings, representatives of the most famous European aristocratic families hunted in Belarusian forests.

The area of Belarusian hunting grounds is more than 170000 km². It is allowed to hunt for 22 animal species and 31 bird species. Antlers, elk horns, wild boar canines, stuffed cock of the woods and black grouses are of great value in the whole world. Foreigners come to Belarus to get these hunting trophies.

Representatives of 10 countries have been hunting in Belarus in 2009. It is interesting that there are more foreigners who hunt in our country than those in France and Germany.

• An elk and a red deer - from September, 1st till November, 30th
• A roe deer - from May, 15th till November, 30th
• A wild boar - from May, 15th till January, 15th
• A beaver and an otter - from October, 1st till December, 31st
• A hare, a raccoon dog, a fox, a marten, a polecat, an ermine, a least weasel, a squirrel, a mink, the muskrat - form the first Saturday in October till the third Sunday in January
• A cock of the woods - from March, 20th till May, 10th
• A blackcock - from March, 20th till May, 10th, and form the first Saturday in August till last Sunday in October
• Water and moorfowl, woodcock – from the first Saturday in August till the last Sunday in November.

Those who are fond of fishing can spend their free time in Belarusian fishing areas. You can choose a type of fish, place and method of fishing. Organized sports and amateur fishing at running water habitats provides you with tasty fresh-water fish.
